All Together Sunday

All Together Sunday is  one way to live out our commitment to children and our core value of “room for one more” including our youngest members.  Every last Sunday of the month at the 9:45 AM worship service and every second Sunday of the month at the 11:15 AM Spanish Worship Service there is no Sunday School so that our children can experience worship.  We believe a powerful lesson for our children is that “church” is for all ages.  Our Sunday School teachers believe children most affectively learn about worship by watching adults worship.  Last Sunday was our first “All Together Sunday” and God showed up in many ways.  Pastor Brian was touched when his 3 year old granddaughter came forward to sing with the children’s choir and loudly proclaimed, “I am on the stage with Pa Pa!”  The stage of Riverside is for all, we believe in the ministry of all believers and we believe God’s Holy Spirit works through young and old.  All Together Sunday also provides opportunities for us to teach lessons we all need to remember.  This week pastor Brian talked about communion and that we believe it is one way we all remember that God loves us.  While pastor Shannon closed worship with a sermon wrestling with the question, “Why are you afraid?” Semon  pastor Brian and some amazing volunteers took the children to the playground.   Pastor Brian described the time at the playground this way, “I am humbled to be able to play tag with our children.  First, because they are so fast I was always getting “it”. Second, it was amazing to see our children enjoy being together.  Third, I got to have fun playing with our children and hopefully they will each remember this time and hopefully 10 years from now when they need to talk they will know I am someone who cares and they can talk to about the great issues of life.”
