The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.
We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory,
like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish. John 1:14 (The Message)
What does that mean??? Every Christmas, every day really, we are reminded of God’s amazing love for us: He was willing to leave all the goodness of heaven and decided to empty himself and became one of us. That is good news and amazing love! Share Christmas is more than a program that we do every year to help our neighbors and give to others. Share Christmas is about God’s good news, hope and joy to whom He loves. That is all of us. How do we share good news? At some point in our lives, we all have experienced difficult situations when we feel like the floor has dropped from under us. Often as we look back on those times, it is not about how the problem was solved that impacts us, but rather we remember those who came to show us we were not alone or forgotten. Though the situation may not have changed immediately, there was a sense of hope that helped us keep taking steps forward trusting. That sentiment is what happens when someone receives gifts to share with their children, bags of groceries that relieve pressure during the week or when someone invites a neighbor or a coworker to be a part of Share Christmas. In those moments we become the living witnesses of God’s love as we move into “the neighborhood” and share love, time and treasure.
Doing Share Christmas together, we are reminded that we belong to each other, as we receive and give God’s love and grace. That is the Good News!
As a church, we want to live out the true meaning of Christmas and go into the neighborhood inviting others to join us.
We pray as you prepare for the upcoming Christmas season, you find ways to share Christmas with others, so God’s love will forever impact your life and our community.
