Kourtney Haake was a beloved member of the Riverside community who was passionate about kids of all ages. She taught at Potowmack Elementary School for over a decade as a Kindergarten and Second Grade teacher and as a PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) tutor helping kids who fell behind the reading benchmark. She also served tirelessly at Riverside Presbyterian Church with the youth ministry, at vacation bible school, and at homework club providing tutoring for struggling students.  Unfortunately, we lost Kourtney in July 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

In honor of Kourtney’s memory and her love of students, Riverside Presbyterian Church has established The Kourtney Haake Student and Educational Support Fund.  The fund helps support the growth and development of students in the greater Riverside community who need financial assistance. The fund supports one-time grants toward:

  • Scholarships for Riverside camps and programs
  • School books and supplies
  • Computers and related equipment required for educational purposes
  • Other financial assistance to students (e.g. for medical or other needs) in the discretion of the Fund Committee

For Applicants:

The fund is open to students from elementary school, middle school, high school, and students pursuing post-secondary education, and will be based on:

  • Financial need
  • Community ties to Riverside Presbyterian Church
  • Identified purpose for the funds

Recipients will be given the opportunity to share with the church how the funds impacted their lives.
